Sure, everyone knows about sore boobs and being nauseated — but there are a few more that you might not know about. These are most definitely NOT a pregnancy test (just go grab one at the dollar store) but often a reminder that you ARE pregnant and your body is already changing!
Really quick — you may not be aware of some of the changes you should make with your diet — so grab my safe eating guide right here:
Oh, and who the heck am I to know all this? Hi, I’m Hilary — many people also know me as The Pregnancy Nurse®. I’ve been a nurse since 1997 and I have 20 years of labor and delivery experience. I’ve also been pregnant 3 times myself so I know how magical this all is!
Ok, let’s jump into those symptoms!
4 Early Pregnancy Symptoms You Might Be Missing
Bloody Noses
This one really caught me off guard at work one day as I was working on charting (we paper charted back then) and a drop fell on my flowsheet….
Because of all the extra blood flow that your body starts to accumulate, plus some dry hospital air I frequently had bloody noses at work.
It’s a weird one, but did remind me my body was already making changes!
Smelling ALL the Smells
Ugh, my husband — any time working outside and I was like TO THE SHOWER. It was just all the smells.
Luckily, he didn’t take it personally and knew that I had more blood flow to my nose, and my senses were heightened to protect baby — it wasn’t just him.
Having a partner who knows what’s going on helps with this a lot. Get them prepared for all of it in here.
Your Mouth Tastes Funny
Food tasted a little different, but I mostly noticed my MOUTH tasted different. Again, I think this is from our senses being heightened, and more blood flow — possibly hormones too, but this one isn’t unusual and catches a lot of people off-guard!
Changing Colors
No, I’m not talking about the foliage — I’m talking about parts of your body. They may start to change colors:
- Spots on your face
- A line from your belly button towards your lady bits
- Changes in your breast colors and texture
- Your lady bits themselves can change colors
Sometimes these colors go back to “normal” after, and sometimes they don’t.
As long as they’re not coming with pain or numbness you’re just experiencing the magic of pregnancy.
Amazing, right?
