Time just gets away from me. All the sudden it’s the weekend again and I’m wondering what days we’re picking up kids at school what days they have after school stuff. Just SO many components to work together to keep a family on top of things.
That’s where our weekly family team meetings come into play.
Once a week, we sit down and talk about our calendaring, ask if anyone has questions or things they want us to work on and then we go about our merry way. We usually do it on Sunday mornings.
This just in: Want more info on Family Meetings? Family Routines has an entire section on family meetings, and how they can work at YOUR house. Includes videos, assignments and many more chapters on getting your family organized!
Here’s what we review:
1. Who’s in charge of Family Home Evening that week, and what’s the topic?
2. What happens each day of the week, who will pick them up or if they’re walking home. Mostly I just review the calendar my kids never look at.
3. If there are any family activities that we’re doing, and how those will work.
4. If anyone has anything they’d like to bring up. It’s a safe, calm time for people to bring up things that bug them, or things they’ve appreciated (if that ever happens – lol).
That way, unless there’s been a big change, I can’t hear
“I never knew about ____________” {usually said in a whiny tone}
I can remind them we talked about it on Sunday. And walk away.
And nothing is better than walking away, knowing you’re right. Am I right?
Do you think family meetings could help your family stay on the same page? I do.
**{Smart} Moms is a relative term. I had to give it a name, but I am the first one to say I’m not smart all the time. There are weeks this honestly doesn’t happen (often when I’m sick or out of comission) I just find it easier when I do. This series is just a list of things I’ve found to make life easier — not to say — WOOT WOOT, I’m SOooooOOOO smart! {said like Steve Martin}
