Ok, a little time out for a proud mamma moment.
The Gilbert Temple has been toured and visited. I’ve taken good friends, who have become better friends just by being in that beautiful building. Up until now, it was just a building, but tomorrow it becomes a temple. We will dedicate it to the Lord and only those who live worthy can enter it.
What do you have to do to live worthy? There are about 10 questions, they involve Sexual Purity, the Word of Wisdom, not lying, treating our families well, nothing major. Things, that if everyone else lived that way, the world would be a pretty amazing place.
Anywho.
Tonight is the Youth Cultural Celebration. The theme is Live True.
I have a 13 year old son. A 13 year old son who LOVES being in plays at school. It’s probably his favorite thing, and we realized that the musical of his 8th grade year and this event would overlap. I explained it to him and wondered what his plan was. There wasn’t even a flicker, he would attend the Youth Cultural Celebration.
Because he lives true.
He didn’t even think about his favorite thing, because he knew there was a better, higher thing. I am so thankful for a WONDERFUL teacher who allowed him a small part to then participate in such a big thing. He’s had both worlds.
Think of twelve thousand youth living true. Do they do it every day? No. but the very fact they will all be on a field in Gilbert trying to live true speaks volumes about who they are.
Conner and I just had a talk as I put some sunscreen on his nose. I reminded him how proud I was of him, and how this would be a day he would look back on. It’s actually pretty drizzly today (first day in weeks) and they are all a little worried about how the day will go and if they’ll be freezing and sad. I reminded him how sometimes awful experiences make the best stories and this wasn’t a day he’d forget. Our Latter Day Prophet, Thomas S Monson will be there. So grateful for all our church leadership. Conner is so lucky to be around good leaders who help him Live True.
Because living true is what we do. It’s how he’ll get back inside the temple again someday.
Those in state can watch the temple celebration on ABC 15.1 at 7 pm, and those out of state can watch it online at abc — you can get all the info here. I just set my DVR to record it!
