As Mr Rogers would say,
I think we turned 5 here. |
Today is a very special day. A very, very, very special day. A very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very special day {climactic finish}
MY son, is a teenager.
The little boy who was pulled with great force (thank you forceps) from me just 13 years ago today. Doing things a little earlier then he wanted. That seems to be par for the course. Making things a little more difficult then necessary, causing me great pain. Again — par for the course. 🙂
I do see changes in this baby boy though. Eating more, more eye rolls, more thoughts about how I ruin his life on a daily basis.
Baptism Day — 5 years ago |
Today is also a very special halfway point, thanks to the change in missionary age. It was 5 years ago that Conner got baptized, and it was 5 years from now that he’ll go on a mission. Yipes. I have a lot to fix in those 5 years. I mean, I had to tie his skates on to go ice skating yesterday!
But, he’s a great kid who has so many amazing qualities. Here are my favorite 13 things about Conner.
1. He adores his little sister. Sure, he says he won’t help out with something, but when he sees that little face he can’t help but be lured into her evil little plans of desperation to get a glass of milk. She adores him too.
2. He is learning to be honest. It’s been a rocky road, but he is slowly realizing that honesty is the best policy, and the consequences will be far less ugly then if he lies to me. At least I hope so.
3. He is all about being “gifted” — he’s proud of being in the prep program at school. We recently had a nice talk with Grandpa about BYU, where he talked a little bit about the honors program. Conner was sure that he’d be in that one. His mom wasn’t, but I digress….
Here I am pregnant with him |
4. He loves scouting. He has such a great time on the campouts and learning new things. I’m really grateful for scouting (while simultaneously not being its biggest fan, how does that happen?).
5. There are times he just can’t stand me. I’m just too darn crazy sometimes. Go figure! Wait, the rest of you think I’m crazy sometimes too? Weird…
6. He loves restaurants, and trying new food. Thank goodness, I love that too!
7. I loved that he did the school musical this past year. I appreciate that he tries things that aren’t really in his comfort zone. It reminds me I don’t always have to push him, sometimes he jumps on his own.
8. I love that he loves music. Just one more year before he’ll be marching himself. He even did a solo at the last Jr High concert. Drew and I didn’t even know he was doing it until that evening, but he made it through. Yay!
9. He has perfected the eye roll. Seriously. I’m not sure how much larger or bigger it can get. I think he has it down. He may yet surprise me though.
10. He loves his friends. He picks good people to hang around. So far, so good. I hope he realizes how important this is. Total life changer. Please stay good on this one, buddy!
11. He loves his grandparents. Man oh man does he.
12. Sometimes, when the stars are aligned just right and the breeze is so very subtle, he and his brother get along in a heartwarming way. They share a room and I try to remind myself to appreciate the happy tom foolery when it’s around… Then, the breeze shifts… and well, you know.
13. He gets the good in life around us. He finds good people, and good things to do. He sees good and he understands it, and veers towards it.
So, there you have it, metal mouth and all he’s all mine. Happy birthday El Presidante! May the year be as lucky as you deserve!

Glad to hear he’s a perfectly normal teenager! Not glad to hear he’s a teenager. I remember when he started Kindergarten! And it also means Bria isn’t too far behind, though she is already acting like a perfectly normal teen.
Happy Birthday Conner!
