Are you looking for some spring maternity essentials that will help you extend your wardrobe through this tricky time. You might just be pregnant and looking for things that will work for the summer as well, or perhaps you’re looking for just a few items to carry you through with a little more confidence into your due date. This article has just the stuff you’ll need to feel great this spring.
Before we get started, have you thought about packing that hospital bag? As The Pregnancy Nurse® I’ve seen THOUSANDS of hospital bags and I don’t want you to bring too much — so grab my list right here:
THE Spring Maternity Essential
Spring will still have chilly mornings and evenings with warmer mid-days, so make sure you grab a cardigan or two. It will also be awesome to have around after baby too!
Note: As you get further into your pregnancy you’ll find that you’re mostly warmer than normal, however sometimes you’re cooler than normal, so a few cardigans is such a smart thing to have on hand, at work — in your car. Just handy to have!
This is also going to be VERY true postpartum — I often found myself FREEZING. Plus, cardigans can be very nursing-friendly when you have the right top (and can keep you warm even when you’re exposed).

Maternity Dresses:
Dresses are honestly the key to a great spring maternity wardrobe. The good news is that a lot of them can also be worn after baby is born.
Pro Tip: A lot of people want to jump back into their pre-pregnancy jeans but I can’t recommend making sure you get plenty of airflow into that area and allow it to heal without being stuck in some tight pants. That’s why dresses are awesome postpartum too.
This one has a solid on top and a pattern below.
I love the Ruching on this one — makes it an easy style!
I think this one would easily transition between pregnancy and postpartum.
Short Sleeve Shirts
Just get some that work well for your changing body.
If you’re earlier in your pregnancy, don’t be afraid to order a size up, I think your future self will thank you.
I love this three pack, makes them a great price — I love the tunic look for pregnancy
This three-pack would also be great for nursing (awesome if you’re close to delivery).
I know I’m linking a lot of stuff from Amazon and it is great if you find something you like there, but sometimes you really want to try it out or feel it — which I get. My body was extra sensitive to fabrics during pregnancy (and frankly, most other things).
Other great places to find maternity clothes:
Ross: I know, I know — fast fashion, but in reality these clothes aren’t going to have to last a long time. I honestly found some of my favorite BASICS here. Don’t forget to check the dress isles too because they often have great dresses that will work during your pregnancy.
Old Navy: Not every store has a maternity section, but some do. Or, shop online. Old Navy tended to have clothes that wore well, and I was able to pass to friends (but a bit more expensive than Ross).
Motherhood Maternity: This was a mainstay of my pregnancies, and they’re now found on Amazon. If you just want to shop around that’s a good option!
If you’re to the point you’re dressing with a bump can I just give you a high five? Those first few months of pregnancy are rough.
But, hopefully things are a bit better now. I know that when my body really started changing I was very aware that a LOT was going to change. I scheduled a birth class at my hospital. Honestly, it was horrible and didn’t prepare me at all. I wish I had shopped around.
Then I found this class. It is a game changer for pregnancy, labor, birth and even postpartum. I WISH I would’ve known even a BIT more about what life was going to look like after baby was born.
Honestly, I thought it would be like buying a new purse and sort of hauling the baby places — and I was really REALLY wrong.
I just really want to tell you that there isn’t enough time at your appointments to discuss all you’re going to need to know. Hospital classes often don’t prepare you for what you really need to know (they sure didn’t for me) and I really hope you want your partner involved.
This class really does just what you need. Plus, it only takes 3 hours and you can do it whenever you want — from your couch!
Don’t worry we still have a few more essentials to run though….
Maternity Jeans
Now, you hopefully have found some leggings that are supporting you. BUT sometimes in the spring you need something a bit thicker. Plus, as you get ready for baby you need to still be able to move and prep for this new little one.
I found a couple of styles of jeans that you might like:
These have a baggier style that will make them easy to move in.
These have a slimmer style if you prefer tighter jeans.
What I do have to say is make sure you have 3-4 pairs of pants that you feel pretty confident in. You don’t need a lot of them — you just need some good ones.
When I buy clothes on Amazon I tend to buy double what I need, I try them on when they come, and return what doesn’t work for me. I also love trying stuff on at home. 🙂
