Since the fourth grade, I’ve been wearing glasses. I’m almost blind without them and a visit to the eye doctor is important for me each year.
I find that without insurance I am less likely to go get an eye exam because of the cost.
While calling around for our most recent eye appointments, the prices varied. Most places quoted anywhere between $200-$300 per visit. Multiply that by a family of 5, and it can be expensive.

Why you might want to consider a vision plan:
Eyes are a picture of your overall health
Even if you have good vision, as you start to age it’s important to see the eye doctor.
During your exam, your eye doctor will look for eye muscle imbalance, vision disorders, and eye disease that could potentially cause future problems.
Family-Sized
Sure, if it’s just you — it might be easy to absorb the cost of an eye exam, but add a whole family and the cost will add up quickly!
If you and/or your family need glasses on top of that, you might find that it’s truly out of your budget.
With VSP, you can make small monthly payments toward your annual plan. Most plans cover an eye exam and/or glasses, plus coverage for lens enhancements.
Also, as kids grow, their eyes can change rapidly. You might be looking at a pair every year (or even more often). That can get really pricey!
Better Doctors
With VSP you can pick from a large network of doctors conveniently located near your work or home.
VSP has the best vision plan out there and I’ve used my benefits a number of times with ease.
Plans start as low as $17/month. Typical annual savings are more than $200/year and members have access to $2,500 savings from leading industry brands.

My copays are $15 for an eye exam and $25 for glasses, plus savings on the thin lenses I need and any special coatings I prefer. That can be a HUGE savings for a family!
So, now it’s your turn — how has vision insurance or your eye doctor helped you? Tell me in the comments!

Our current vision insurance doesn’t cover much. We are a family of 4 with 3 of us needing vision correcting lenses, I think this insurance might be what I have been looking for.

With the typical annual savings being more than $200 a year and having access to $2,500 in savings from leading industry brands it would be great for my family have the Vision Plan.

A vision plan would be good for me because I’m noticing as I get older how difficult it is to read and see up close. Also degenerative eye disease runs in my family.

With us getting older and our children starting to use glasses. We are going to need a plan for vision.
Rennie Dericco says
my lense prescription is pretty pricey especially in the thin lense option that I must have. I think a vision plan would be good for our family on that factor alone. not to mention the affordable copay as well.

I had VSP through a job years ago and it was such a good service. I did not pay much out of packet to get regular exams and glasses. I would sign up with them again.

I’m newly married and just today called to make an appointment for an eye exam. Funny to run across this great information.

A vision plan would be good for me because I have poor eye sight and the exams can be costly when I include the cost of glasses. I also need to take my 2 kids once a year to have their eyes checked.
.Susan Smith says
This vision plan would be great for us because our daughter wears glasses that need to be replaced often and we both wear reading glasses.
Elena says
This would be good for me because I don’t have a vision insurance
Danny Rubio says
This is kind of funny, I just found out that I needed glasses to drive at night, the lights from other cars bother my eyes and makes it hard to see. This would help greatly for the $140.00 cost of the glasses that I don’t have due to being on disability and monies are short due to monthly bills. cross our fingers….
Janice Cooper says
We need a good vision plan because we it’ll help with the cost of glasses. In fact earlier this year I spend around $300 for2 pair of glasses and the vision coverage my job offers isn’t that great of a plan unless you get the most expensive plan.
Kimmy Ripley says
The meds I am on make my eyes a little fuzzy. I think I need an eye checkup!
